Australia Announces T20 World Cup 2026 Squad Some Big Names Miss Out

Australia have officially announced their 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka, with white-ball captain Mitchell Marsh leading a side built around spin depth and all-round options.

While the squad features several experienced campaigners, selectors have also made a few surprising omissions, leaving out some in-form players ahead of the global event starting February 7.

Key Omissions and Selection Decisions

One of the most notable absences is Mitchell Owen, who has been in strong recent form for the Hobart Hurricanes but failed to secure a place in the final squad.

Australia have also opted not to include a left-arm fast bowler, following the retirement of Mitchell Starc from T20 internationals and the injury setback to Spencer Johnson.

For the final specialist pace role, selectors preferred Xavier Bartlett of Brisbane Heat over fellow left-armer Ben Dwarshuis.

Josh Hazlewood is recovering from a hamstring injury
Tim David is also returning from a hamstring problem

Selectors confirmed that squad changes are possible until January 31, in line with ICC regulations, should any player fail to prove full fitness.
