All commercial banks across Pakistan will remain open until 10:00pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, to facilitate the collection of government duties and taxes, according to an official notice issued on Tuesday.

The decision has been taken to ease the year-end rush and allow taxpayers to complete over-the-counter payments on the final day of the calendar year without unnecessary delays.

Special Arrangements for Government Transactions

Under the directive, banks have been instructed to keep their designated counters open late and ensure smooth handling of government receipts. Relevant branches will also remain operational for as long as required to facilitate special clearing of government transactions being conducted through National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT).

Digital Banking Services to Remain Fully Operational

In addition to extended branch hours, banks have been directed to ensure uninterrupted availability of digital payment channels. These include:

  • Internet banking

  • Mobile banking applications

  • ATMs

  • Other electronic payment platforms

This will allow taxpayers to pay government dues electronically without disruption, even during late hours.

Aim to Reduce Last-Day Pressure

Authorities said the move is aimed at reducing last-day payment pressure, preventing congestion at bank branches, and ensuring smooth government revenue collection before year-end.

The announcement comes ahead of the State Bank of Pakistan’s bank holiday on January 1, after which regular banking operations will resume as per schedule.
