Ali Pervaiz Malik said that the government is considering the option of diverting additional gas from the industrial sector to the domestic sector to manage increased household consumption. He also ordered the submission of weekly reports on gas demand and supply.
The petroleum minister further revealed that the Petroleum Division is monitoring the gas situation daily at 10:00 am to ensure timely decision-making and effective supply management.
According to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), domestic gas supply has been increased from 691 MMCFD to 746 MMCFD since January 6. Additionally, production at the Shewa gas field has been enhanced from 55 to 65 MMCFD.
Officials said the restoration of two gas fields has significantly improved the overall supply situation. Compared to last year, domestic consumers are now receiving an additional 39 MMCFD of gas.
Meanwhile, consultations are underway to extend gas suspension for industrial users from one day to two days, in order to further prioritize household consumers during the winter season.
