Government Announces Free Solar Systems with Inverter and Battery

In a major relief initiative for the public, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide free or easy-installment solar systems to 120,000 deserving households in the merged districts of the province.

According to official details, each selected household will receive a 2-kilowatt solar system, which will include an inverter and other essential equipment, ensuring uninterrupted electricity access.

Cost and Funding Details

Estimated cost per solar system: Rs. 255,000 to Rs. 300,000
Total project cost: Rs. 13 billion
Funding: Fully provided by the KP government

Districts Covered Under the Solar Scheme

The solar project will be implemented in:

Bajaur
Khyber
Kurram
Orakzai
Mohmand
North Waziristan
South Waziristan

The project will be executed under a financial model developed by the Bank of Khyber.

Two Payment Options for Beneficiaries

The government has proposed two options for beneficiaries:

Refundable Option:
- Monthly installment of approximately Rs. 8,300 for 36 months
Non-Refundable Option:
- No payment required, fully free solar system

Vendor selection: Bank of Khyber
Technical support: Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO)

Officials said the scheme aims to reduce electricity costs, promote renewable energy, and provide long-term relief to underserved communities.
