A delay in the supply of government wheat to flour mills has sparked concerns over a further increase in flour prices, particularly in Karachi.
Chairman of the Flour Mills Association, Abdul Junaid, stated that the government wheat currently available lacks nutritional value and is being mixed with newly harvested wheat to produce flour. He warned that the resulting flour has become too expensive for the common public to afford.

Karachi Flour Prices Under Pressure
According to Abdul Junaid, the Sindh government’s delay in wheat delivery to flour mills has already contributed to rising flour prices in both wholesale and retail markets across Karachi. He cautioned that if the issue persists, prices could increase further in the coming days.
He added that Karachi Commissioner has been formally informed about the delayed supply, while discussions have also been held with the DIG Traffic to ensure smoother transportation and timely delivery of wheat to flour mills.
Price Difference Between Old and New Wheat
The chairman highlighted that the price of old government wheat stands at Rs. 80 per kilogram, while new wheat being mixed into the supply costs around Rs. 110 per kilogram. The higher cost of new wheat is directly impacting flour prices.
