Following approval from the federal cabinet, the Ministry of Commerce has issued an official notification imposing restrictions on the import of chloroform due to environmental and safety concerns.
According to the notification, amendments have been made to the Import Policy Order 2022, under which only pharmaceutical companies will be allowed to import chloroform.

The ministry clarified that all chloroform imports will be strictly conditional upon obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
Officials said the move aims to regulate the use of hazardous chemicals, prevent misuse, and minimize environmental and health risks, while ensuring availability for legitimate pharmaceutical purposes.
