Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that the upcoming home T20I series against Pakistan will be dedicated to the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, highlighting the role of sport in supporting national recovery efforts.

The decision was taken by the Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee, chaired by Shammi Silva, as part of the board’s commitment to assist government-led rehabilitation programmes following the devastation caused by the Ditwah Cyclone.

Cricket Used as a Platform for Awareness

According to reports, Sri Lanka Cricket will introduce several initiatives during the series to raise awareness about the rebuilding campaign.

Key measures include:

  • Promotion of the #VisitSriLanka hashtag at match venues

  • Messaging aimed at highlighting Sri Lanka as a global tourism destination

  • Public engagement around recovery and rehabilitation efforts

The board said the series provides a powerful platform to reach both local and international audiences.

Series Profits to Support Recovery Programme

In a significant move, Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed that profits generated from the Pakistan T20I series will be donated to the federal government’s recovery programme.

Officials said the contribution is intended to support long-term rebuilding efforts and assist communities affected by the cyclone.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka T20I Series Schedule

The three-match T20I series will be played on:

  • January 7

  • January 9

  • January 11

The matches will serve as a key part of both teams’ international calendar early in the year.

Preparation for T20 World Cup 2026

Beyond its humanitarian focus, the series also carries sporting importance. It will act as a crucial preparatory phase for both sides ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

  • Pakistan, placed in Group A, will open their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on February 7.

  • Sri Lanka, in Group B, will begin their journey on February 8 against Ireland.

Recent T20I Meeting Between the Teams

The two sides last faced each other in the T20I format during a Pakistan-hosted tri-nation series in November, which also included Zimbabwe. Pakistan went on to win the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

Cricket Beyond Competition

By dedicating the series to a national cause, Sri Lanka Cricket has reinforced the idea that cricket can play a meaningful role beyond competition—serving as a tool for unity, awareness, and recovery.
