Per Kg Rice Price Jumps Sharply

The retail price of new rice has climbed from Rs 288 to between Rs 300 and Rs 305 per kilogram, making it increasingly difficult for the poor to afford basic meals.

Shopkeepers say that declining purchasing power has reduced sales, while consumers complain that even cooking rice and chicken together has become unaffordable for many households.
