Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) has announced steps to restore gas supply in Sindh and Balochistan after a temporary shortfall of approximately 30 million cubic feet per day.

The shortfall was caused by an upstream technical fault, which coincided with an unexpected cold spell, sharply increasing household gas consumption.

Surge in Household Gas Demand

The cold wave led to higher use of geyser heaters, space heaters, and cooking appliances, raising overall gas consumption by nearly 10 percent. To manage this surge, SSGC diverted about 90 million cubic feet per day of reliquefied natural gas into its distribution network.

Load Management and Industrial Measures

SSGC implemented a government-approved load management plan to prioritize household consumers:

  • Gas supply to fertilizer plants was curtailed

  • Weekly industrial closures were enforced temporarily

  • Dedicated 24-hour teams were deployed to address low-pressure complaints

Restoration Timeline and Household Priority

The company expects to recover the gas deficit within the next few days, after which pressure levels will normalize across Sindh and Balochistan.

SSGC confirmed that domestic supply remains a top priority, aiming to ensure uninterrupted gas service from 5 am to 10 pm.

“We are actively resolving the technical fault and closely monitoring household consumption to minimize disruption,” said a company spokesperson.

Impact on Consumers

These measures ensure that households can continue to rely on safe and consistent gas supply, despite extreme winter conditions. SSGC’s proactive approach highlights its commitment to domestic energy security and consumer welfare during peak winter demand.
