Skywatchers are set for a spectacular celestial event as the first supermoon of 2026 rises on January 3, offering a stunning start to the new year’s astronomy calendar.
This full Moon, traditionally known as the Wolf Moon, is unique as it marks two rare milestones at once. It is not only the first supermoon of 2026 but also the final supermoon in the series that began in October 2025.

Will the Supermoon Be Visible in Pakistan?
Yes. According to astronomical timings, the supermoon will rise in Pakistan at approximately 5:51 PM on January 3. The Moon will shine at nearly 99.8% illumination, making it exceptionally bright and visually striking.
The event will remain clearly visible through the nights of January 3 and January 4, weather conditions permitting.
Why This Supermoon Is Special
During this event, the Moon will be about 362,312 kilometers (225,130 miles) from Earth, placing it much closer than average. Because of this proximity, it will appear 6–7% larger and up to 10% brighter than a typical full moon.
Supermoons usually occur in clusters of three to four consecutive events, and the January 3 supermoon officially concludes the current sequence.

Adding to the excitement, the supermoon coincides with the peak of the Quadrantid meteor shower, giving astronomy enthusiasts a rare opportunity to witness two celestial events on the same night.
While the bright Moon may slightly reduce meteor visibility, brighter shooting stars are still expected to be seen, especially from darker locations.
No More Supermoons in 2026 After This
Skywatchers should take note: there will be no additional supermoons for the rest of 2026. The next supermoon series is expected to begin in November 2026, making this event the last chance this year to witness a supermoon.
