BISP Increases Stipends Across Major Programs Ahead of Ramadan

In a major relief package before Ramadan, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has announced an increase in financial assistance under its key initiatives.

The decision will benefit approximately 10 million families across Pakistan, offering much-needed support amid rising inflation and household expenses.

Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid confirmed that enhanced payments will be included in the upcoming quarterly disbursement scheduled during Ramadan.

Benazir Kafalat Payment Increased to Rs. 14,500

Under the updated structure:

  • Quarterly stipend increased from Rs. 13,500 to Rs. 14,500

  • Additional Rs. 1,000 will be included in the Ramadan payment

For low-income families, this increase provides timely assistance during a month when expenses typically rise due to food and utility costs.

Education Stipends Also Increased

The Benazir Education Stipends Program will see:

  • An additional Rs. 500 per eligible child

However, the existing condition remains:

  • Students must maintain at least 70% school attendance

This conditional support aims to encourage education continuity among children from vulnerable households.

Rs. 500 Increase in Nashonuma Program

The Benazir Nashonuma Program, which supports:

  • Pregnant women

  • Lactating mothers

will also receive a Rs. 500 increase.

This initiative combines financial assistance with nutritional support to improve maternal and child health across Pakistan.

10 Million Women Brought into Formal Banking System

One of the most significant updates is BISP’s move toward financial inclusion.

According to the announcement:

  • 10 million women beneficiaries now have individual bank accounts

  • Free SIM cards will be provided through BISP offices and camp sites

  • Payments will be transferred to digital wallets

Recipients will receive SMS notifications once funds are disbursed.

Interoperability Introduced Among Seven Banks

BISP has introduced interoperability among seven partner banks, meaning:

  • Beneficiaries are no longer restricted to a single assigned payment agent

  • Funds can be withdrawn from any authorized agent of participating banks

This change is expected to reduce long queues and improve convenience for women collecting payments.

Why This Matters

The expansion of stipends combined with digital payments reflects:

  • Stronger social safety net

  • Improved transparency

  • Reduced dependency on middlemen

  • Enhanced financial inclusion for women

Moving to digital wallets also lowers the risk of delays, fraud, and manual processing errors.

What Beneficiaries Should Do

Eligible families should:

  • Ensure their CNIC details are updated

  • Keep registered mobile numbers active

  • Follow official BISP announcements

  • Avoid unofficial agents

Payments will be credited digitally, and beneficiaries should wait for SMS confirmation before visiting withdrawal agents.
