Rain and Severe Cold Alert Issued Across Punjab

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of rainfall and a sharp increase in cold intensity across several districts of Punjab over the coming days.

According to PDMA Punjab, a western weather system is expected to enter the province between January 16 and January 19, bringing rain to plain areas and colder conditions across central and southern Punjab.

Heavy Rain & Snowfall Expected in Northern Areas

The alert further states that from January 20 to January 23, Murree, Galiyat, and other mountainous regions may experience heavy snowfall and rain, which could impact travel, electricity supply, and daily life in hill stations.

Authorities have advised tourists to remain cautious and stay updated with official advisories during this period.

Districts Likely to Receive Rain

PDMA has forecast rainfall in multiple divisions, including:

  • Lahore

  • Sargodha

  • Gujranwala

  • Sahiwal

  • Multan

  • Faisalabad

  • Dera Ghazi Khan

  • Bahawalpur

The rain is expected to further intensify the cold wave, particularly during night and early morning hours.

Emergency Departments Put on High Alert

In response to the forecast, PDMA has placed several departments on high alert, including:

  • Local Government departments

  • Health Department

  • Rescue services

  • Punjab Police

  • Transport authorities

These departments have been directed to ensure preparedness to handle any emergency situations arising due to extreme weather conditions.

Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, take precautions against cold-related illnesses, and follow updates issued by PDMA and meteorological authorities.
