The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans could be heading toward a major identity shift as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) moves closer to selling the team ahead of PSL 11.

According to reports, if the Multan-based franchise is acquired by new owners, they will not be required to retain the existing name. The PCB has clarified that keeping the “Multan Sultans” branding is not mandatory, opening the door to a complete rebrand.

PSL Franchise Likely to Be Rebranded Under New Owners

This means a potential new team name, logo, and commercial identity, depending on the vision of the eventual buyer.

Recent developments suggest the PCB is planning to auction the franchise before PSL 11, instead of delaying the process. An official advertisement inviting eligible bidders is expected soon, with the sale likely to follow the same bidding framework used for the league’s recent expansion teams.

Unlike newly added franchises, Multan already has PSL history, a loyal fan base, and established market value, making it an attractive asset for investors.

The timing is critical as preparations for PSL 11 are already underway, with the players’ draft expected around January 30. Franchises need operational clarity to finalize planning, squad strategies, and decision-making structures.

Since the conclusion of Ali Tareen’s ownership, the PCB has been running the franchise temporarily to ensure continuity. A pre-season sale would allow the team to enter the next PSL cycle with a settled ownership structure, and possibly under a new identity.

If the auction proceeds on the accelerated timeline, Multan could debut in the upcoming season under new ownership and a rebranded name.
