A notification circulating widely on social media has sparked confusion among parents, students, and teachers across Punjab, claiming that the provincial government has extended winter vacations for all public and private schools and colleges due to harsh weather conditions.

According to the viral document, winter holidays were allegedly extended from January 10 to January 17, 2026, with educational institutions set to reopen on January 19. The notification further instructed district education authorities to ensure strict compliance.

No Official Confirmation from Punjab Government

However, no official announcement has been issued by the Punjab government or the School Education Department to support this claim. The alleged notification is not available on any official government platforms, raising serious doubts about its authenticity.

Education-related decisions in Punjab are always communicated through formal notifications, official press releases, or verified statements by provincial leadership.

Education Minister Rejects Vacation Extension Rumors

In recent days, Rana Sikandar Hayat, who oversees the School Education Department, directly addressed speculation surrounding winter vacations. He categorically denied reports of any extension.

In a public statement shared earlier this week, the education minister clarified that schools and colleges will reopen as per the existing schedule and urged the public to avoid misinformation.

“School & College Holidays Will NOT Be Extended. Please avoid fake news.”

What Parents and Students Should Do

As of now, no changes have been announced to the winter vacation schedule in Punjab. Parents, students, and school administrations are strongly advised to rely only on official government channels for accurate and verified information.

With fake notifications becoming increasingly common, authorities continue to emphasize the importance of verifying news before sharing it further.
