Power consumers across Pakistan have received a welcome relief as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction in electricity prices under the fuel price adjustment mechanism.
According to NEPRA’s official notification, the reduction has been granted based on November’s fuel cost adjustment, and consumers will see its impact in their January electricity bills.

Lifeline consumers remain excluded from this adjustment.
NEPRA Also Approves Increase in Average Power Tariff
Alongside the reduction, NEPRA has also approved the average electricity price for the current year.
From January 1, the per-unit electricity price has been increased by Rs1.79, raising the national average power tariff to Rs33.38 per unit from January 2026 onward.

At present, the applicable average base electricity tariff in Pakistan stands at Rs31.59 per unit.
Energy analysts say that while the fuel price adjustment will provide short-term relief in upcoming bills, the increase in the average tariff could offset the benefit in the longer run.
