Approved Route Details

Under the official plan:

  • Electric buses will start from Gujar Khan Adda

  • Travel via Mandra

  • Operate along G.T. Road

  • Terminate at T-Chowk

  • Return on the same route

This service will directly link Gujar Khan with Rawalpindi and Islamabad, making travel more convenient for office workers, students, and residents.

Electric Bus Expansion in Rawalpindi

Asad Shirazi also shared updates on the Rawalpindi electric bus system, revealing that:

  • The number of electric buses will increase from 45 to 80

  • Expansion will follow the remodelling of Kutchery Chowk

  • Six new routes will become operational after road development work

This expansion is part of a broader plan to modernize urban transport and reduce fuel-based emissions in major cities.

New Electric Bus Depot on Peshawar Road

The RTA Secretary confirmed that construction of an electric bus depot on Peshawar Road is nearing completion. Once operational, the depot will support additional buses and help improve service efficiency across the network.

In total, 10 electric bus routes have been allocated, while the remaining six routes will launch after infrastructure work is completed at Kutchery Chowk and nearby areas.

A Step Toward Sustainable Transport

Punjab’s electric bus initiative reflects the government’s focus on sustainable mobility, reduced pollution, and affordable public transport. The expansion toward Islamabad is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide commuters with a reliable alternative to private vehicles.

Conclusion

With the launch of the Gujar Khan–Islamabad electric bus route, Punjab continues to strengthen its green transport vision. The upcoming expansion in Rawalpindi and new infrastructure projects signal a significant shift toward cleaner, smarter urban mobility.
