Lahore Board to Launch E-Sheet System for Class 9 & 10 Exams

In a major reform aimed at modernizing the examination process, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore (BISE Lahore) has finalized preparations to introduce an E-Sheet system for Class 9 and Class 10 examinations — particularly for Computer Science papers.

This move signals a significant shift from traditional manual paper checking to a more digital and transparent system.

What Is the E-Sheet System?

Under the new system:

  • Students’ answer sheets will be scanned

  • Copies will be uploaded online

  • Examiners will check papers digitally from their computers

  • Marking will be done remotely

This approach is expected to:

  • Save time

  • Improve transparency

  • Reduce manual errors

  • Digitally store exam records

For students and parents, this could mean fewer delays in result preparation.

How Will the New Marking Process Work?

One of the most important features of the E-Sheet system is question-wise marking.

According to sources:

  • Each examiner will check only one question

  • If a paper contains five questions, five different examiners will mark them separately

This method aims to:

  • Reduce marking bias

  • Improve fairness

  • Ensure consistent evaluation standards

By dividing marking responsibility, the chances of favoritism or calculation mistakes may decrease significantly.

Important Instructions for Students

Students will need to follow a structured answering format:

  • Write answers strictly according to question numbers

  • Avoid mixing answers randomly

  • Follow board instructions carefully

Proper numbering is essential to ensure smooth scanning and accurate digital marking.

Failure to follow format instructions could create complications during online evaluation.

Why Is Lahore Board Making This Change?

The Secretary of Lahore Board has stated that the new system will:

  • Improve marking quality

  • Increase result transparency

  • Digitally secure records

  • Reduce complaints related to rechecking

Since answer sheets will be digitally stored, it becomes easier to review records in case of disputes.

This could also reduce controversies often seen during result season.

Will This Apply to All Subjects?

Initially, the E-Sheet system is being introduced particularly for Computer Science exams in Class 9 and 10.

However, if successful, the system may gradually expand to other subjects in the future.

What This Means for Students in Punjab

BISE Lahore is one of the largest education boards in Punjab. If the E-Sheet system proves effective:

  • Other Punjab boards may adopt similar technology

  • The examination system could move toward full digitization

  • Result announcement timelines may improve

For students, adapting to structured answer writing will now be even more important.
